Freeling Primary School

About us

As a small community school the relationships between teachers, students and parents are critical to our core values.  There are few schools where most teachers know every child by name; or where the school’s values – respect, responsibility, trust and honesty – are taught as an integral part of the curriculum.

At Freeling Primary School, we believe it’s important for the students to develop strong bonds within their community – to value it and also to feel valued.

Our school has a strong community focus with the wellbeing of each child of highest priority.  This is reflected in both the school’s vision and mission statements.

Our Vision

For our whole school community to grow, learn and feel positive.

Our Mission

To provide a safe, happy and quality learning environment in which children are encouraged to strive for personal excellence.

We use Program Achieve’s,  ‘Keys to Success’ to teach our students confidence, organisation, getting along, persistence and resilience – skills that are needed throughout their lives.

 After School Care

We also offer an After School Care  program until 6.15 pm every school day and a vacation care program.

 Excellence in Education

At Freeling Primary School, we are committed to offering a comprehensive and effective curriculum in 8 areas of learning (English, Maths, Studies of Society & Environment, The Arts, Technology, Science, Health & PE and a Language Other than English – Japanese), with core literacy and numeracy remaining as our major priorities. Learning programs are tailored to meet the specific learning needs of individual students.

In 2011, our current enrolment is 180-190  students in seven composite classes from Reception to Year 7. We also have a Preschool on site. Our staff comprises   teachers, ancillary staff, special education support workers, a school counsellor and a Christian Pastoral Support Worker.

We also have a specialist Japanese teacher with this language taught from Reception to Year 7.

The school also has a strong focus on extra curricula programs for all students including sport, music, art and performance opportunities. Specialist music teachers lead our school choir and teach instrumental music to senior students.

All students from Year 5 are encouraged to sing in the school choir and learn a musical instrument – clarinet, saxophone or flute.

Information technology is another important part of the curriculum. Every classroom has an Interactive Whiteboard and classroom computers which are used as an integral learning tool.

This enables our students to use the latest technology as part of their learning across all areas of the curriculum.

 Nurturing healthy kids

Getting incidental exercise is easy for our students. Our school is well positioned within the town of Freeling, so most students can walk or ride a bike to school.

Sport is a big part of a country town. In additional to traditional team sports such as football, netball, tennis and cricket, students at Freeling have access to SAPSASA (South Australian Public Schools Amateur Sports Association) sports such as the above traditional sports, basketball, soccer, hockey, golf, softball, cross- country, athletics and swimming.

Our swimming program starts in Reception and bi-annual Aquatics Camp for Years 5, 6 and 7 is a much-anticipated event where students can learn water sports such as sailing, canoeing, snorkelling, surfing and windsurfing.
